The lab work that makes GLP-1 weight loss safer and smarter

Some weight loss services skip labs entirely. We don't think that's responsible — and we know from experience that having baseline data dramatically improves outcomes. The good news: it's a focused panel, not the kitchen sink.

— Overview

Why baseline labs matter before GLP-1 medication

GLP-1 medications are remarkable when they fit; they're also not appropriate for everyone. Labs help your clinician make the right call.

Most members starting semaglutide or tirzepatide are well people who simply want help losing significant weight. For those members, the lab requirements are short — confirm there's no contraindication, establish a baseline, and ship the medication.

But some members have underlying issues that make GLP-1 medications either riskier or less effective than they could be. Subclinical hypothyroidism. Iron deficiency. Vitamin D insufficiency. PCOS. Insulin resistance that needs metformin alongside the GLP-1. Pre-diabetes that's about to flip into diabetes. Liver enzyme elevations from fatty liver disease. These are not exotic findings — they're common in adults whose weight has crept up over years, and they meaningfully change the optimal treatment plan.

HealifyNow's weight-loss lab panel is designed to catch the things that matter, without ordering tests that don't change anything. Your clinician explains every result, and we run a follow-up panel at 3-6 months to verify the medication is doing what it should.

— Who it's for

Two paths: required vs optional

Required core

HbA1c, fasting glucose, CMP (liver/kidney), CBC, TSH, lipid panel. Eight markers. ~$129.

💪

Recommended add-ons

Fasting insulin, vitamin D, B12, ferritin. Catches deficiencies that affect energy and weight loss.

♀️

Female-focused add-ons

Estradiol, FSH, progesterone if relevant. Identifies hormone patterns affecting weight (perimenopause, PCOS).

🧬

Comprehensive option

Combine with the full panel ($399) for the most thorough baseline and ongoing tracking.

— Process

How HealifyNow makes it simple

From your first message to your medication arriving at your door — clinician-guided, every step.

1

Schedule your free visit

A care team member meets with you to understand your goals, medical history, and treatment preferences. The first visit is no-cost and no-commitment — we want you to be confident before moving forward.

2

Meet your licensed clinician

Connect by secure video or phone with a U.S.-licensed physician or nurse practitioner who reviews your full picture — labs, prior treatments, current medications, and lifestyle — and decides what is clinically appropriate.

3

Receive your prescription if appropriate

If your clinician determines treatment is right for you, they issue a prescription that goes to a licensed U.S. pharmacy. We coordinate discreet shipping, or you can fill it locally. Follow-up visits are built in.

— Mechanism

What each marker tells your clinician

HbA1c. Your 3-month glucose average. Catches pre-diabetes and undiagnosed diabetes. Changes the medication choice (Mounjaro/Ozempic for diabetic; Wegovy/Zepbound for non-diabetic chronic weight management).

Fasting glucose and fasting insulin. Together they reveal insulin resistance before HbA1c does. If insulin is high, your clinician may add metformin alongside the GLP-1 for faster progress.

Comprehensive metabolic panel. Kidney function (we need this for dosing) and liver enzymes. Mild fatty-liver-pattern elevations are common in members who have carried weight for years; we monitor them on therapy.

Complete blood count. Anemia is common, especially in menstruating women. Iron-deficient members feel terrible on GLP-1 medications because the appetite suppression makes nutrient intake worse. Worth knowing.

TSH. Subclinical hypothyroidism affects ~5% of adults and dramatically reduces weight loss response. We treat it; weight loss responds.

Lipid panel. Establishes baseline cardiovascular risk. GLP-1 medications typically improve lipids substantially, which is one of their underappreciated benefits.

Vitamin D, B12, ferritin (optional). Three common deficiencies that drain energy and motivation. Cheap to check, easy to fix, big effect on how you feel during the program.

— Safety

What this panel is not

Your clinician will review every relevant detail with you. Here are the most important points to know up front.

Not a substitute for medical exam

Lab values don't replace a clinician talking through your history, medications, and goals.

Not insurance-billable as a package

Components may be covered if your PCP orders them. Our pricing is transparent.

Not necessary before every visit

Some members already have recent labs from their PCP and can submit those instead of running new ones.

Required by us, not by law

GLP-1 prescribing does not require labs by federal law, but doing it without baseline data is irresponsible. We do.

Important

All medications must be prescribed by a licensed provider based on medical necessity. Treatment is not suitable for everyone. Results may vary.

— Use

How the lab process integrates with your program

If you're starting a weight-loss program: sign up for the program first. Your clinician will identify which labs you need based on your intake. If you already have recent labs (within 6 months) from your PCP, those are usually fine — you can upload them during sign-up.

If you need new labs, we send a Quest or LabCorp requisition. You walk in for the draw, results come back in 3-5 business days, your clinician reviews them, and your prescription (if appropriate) follows.

On treatment, we re-check key markers at 3 months (HbA1c, lipid panel, liver enzymes) to verify the medication is working and not causing any unexpected effects. This is standard of care and most members find it reassuring.

— FAQ

Frequently asked questions

HealifyNow makes it easy to move forward with confidence. Here are the answers to what people ask us most.

Are labs really required, or can I skip them?

+

HealifyNow requires either recent (within 6 months) labs or a new draw before starting GLP-1 medications. We won't prescribe blind. Most members accept this as reasonable; it's standard of care.

Can I use labs from my regular doctor?

+

Yes — if they include the core markers and were drawn within the last 6 months, we can use them. Upload the PDF during sign-up.

How much does this cost?

+

The required core panel runs about $129 as a standalone. The recommended add-ons (insulin, D, B12, ferritin) bring it to about $199. The comprehensive full panel ($399) covers everything.

Will my insurance cover the labs?

+

Sometimes, if your PCP orders them through standard insurance billing. Our cash-pay pricing is transparent so you can compare and choose.

How often will I need to re-test on the program?

+

HbA1c, lipid panel, and liver enzymes at 3 months. Full re-panel at 6-12 months. We integrate the re-tests into your ongoing care without surprise fees.

What if labs show something unexpected?

+

Your clinician will explain it in plain language and tell you what it means for your weight-loss program — whether it changes the medication, adds a co-treatment (like metformin or thyroid replacement), or needs separate follow-up.

Can I do labs and a clinician consult on the same day?

+

Yes. Many members fast overnight, get drawn first thing in the morning, then meet with the clinician once results post a few days later.

What if I'm scared of needles?

+

The draw is fast (5-15 minutes) and Quest/LabCorp technicians are professionals. You can request a smaller-gauge needle and use whatever distraction works for you. Most members are fine; we don't shame anyone for being nervous.

Do GLP-1 weight loss the way it should be done.

Start with labs, get a real clinical picture, and begin treatment with confidence.
